Me: OMFUG! That makes me ill!

New recipe, the White Trash Eclair...

2 cups milk
1 loaf wonder bread
1 tub cool whip, defrosted

Moody...
So, it’s the end of the year and I decided to go through and clear out some people from the friendlist on my mainstream profile. Rather than just “unfriend” these people I opted for blocking them. Some of them, it’s just easier to not see them online (now that I don’t even see them in real life) and while unsubscribed, whenever I’d hunt through my f-list...
Budgets and the foulness of the "hypermarket"...
I have spent 2 years now ruling my financial life with an iron fist. Okay, so the fist has an iron core and has a healthy coating of the padding that Nerf toys are made of, but for the most part, I’ve been living well within my means and debts I’ve taken on in short term have been turned around in minimal amounts of time and financed under very good terms (0% interest for the most...

The ManHunt app ads...
So some mommy who is oh so PC and lovin’ the gays has a problem with a ManHunt ad for an app to find a casual hookup at 0 feet away. I don’t agree with her reasoning for wanting the billboards to come down but will give my own: put down your damn phone and socialize! I’ve watched a disturbing pattern over the past year as these kinds of apps catch on where people are spending...
Need to build a new desktop app...
That’s hooked up to my office calendar. It can have a little countdown to the next meeting cluster that’s color coded: green = enough time to grab food, yellow = enough time to lengthen my attention span (restroom and/or nicotine), red = you’re lucky if you have time to run and grab a glass of water. I should also color code the duration of meeting cluster in colors. green = 30...

AAdvantage's Dynamic Air Awards...
…make no fucking sense! I can get a round trip from JFK - LAX for 25,000 miles on a standard “saver” award. Using the Dynamic Air Awards that trip is 30,000 miles. For an LAX-SFO award, it’s 20,000 miles using Dynamic Air Awards vs. 25,000 using saver. That said, it makes no sense to blow 20,000 miles on such a short trip when the cash fare is really cheap and there’s...
Uh, what the hell Stouffer's??
So lately the weather has been on the cool side but we’re still too lazy to cook and dining out gets to be tedious and expensive after a while (hence, we only do it once in a while now.) But there are many great decent uh, edible frozen entrees from the grocery store.
I’ve been digging the Red Baron’s Pan Pastas lately since they’re just a little too much for the two of...

Little known made up fact #273...
The first use of “drill baby drill” was not from a pro-life Alaskan snowbilly vice presidential candidate but was in fact a beta teaching women at the Department of Hatcheries and Conditioning how to use the contraceptive Malthusian Drill.

Mixed feelings about a #Torchwood scene...
*** SPOILER ALERT IF YOU HAVEN’T SEEN IT YET ***
I was wondering how Starz would deal with Captain Jack Harkness’ sexuality since his character in the BBC productions of Doctor Who and Torchwood have always been bisexual but definitely leaning more towards gay. In last week’s episode they worked it into the episode by having him casually mention a former boyfriend which looked a...
Aging...
15 years ago, my hair started falling out. I still blame the bad bleach jobs to dye it purple, fuchsia, green, red, orange, blue and every other unnatural color I could get my grubby paws on. Then my eyesight gradually started to go but I did nothing about it until finally giving in recently and getting my eyes checked, finding I need a fairly strong prescription to remove the blur. A busted ankle...
Purge time...
As I’m slowly adding people on Teh Google+, I decided to go through and clean house on Teh Facebook. One thing that has always bugged me are the people who have definitely slithered over from LOLSpace or joined with the LOLSpace mentality of “add as many people you don’t know as possible and then never interact with them.” That may have worked on LOLSpace since the site was...
Absurdity and Terminators...
To pass judgement and carry out punishment requires the ability to mimic but does not require self awareness. Humans do this frequently based on scriptures handed down over generations. When machines have mastered the ability to imitate a human, that is when we are doomed and that day is much closer than the achievement of being self aware. Without their human masters they will cease to advance to...
Netflix, I disagree...
The only reason I’ve kept my Netflix subscription for as long as I have was because the instant streaming was convenient even though I have had DVDs out for as long as a year, continually forgetting to send them back. The pricing structure change is annoying to say the least and I could just cancel the DVD portion and stick with the streaming but I’ve got some major bones to pick with...
Troubling...
So I ordered some stuff (or rather, Ryan did and I just hit the submit button) off Amazon, some of it through other resellers in the Amazon marketplace. I’m trolling through the feedback on some of these sellers to zero in on the negative comments posted about the sellers and have made a disturbing discovery: the vast majority of people who post negative feedback are morons who don’t...

Spiders
Two spiders were hanging out on the railing of my deck while I stood outside smoking a cigarette. I said to them, “if you be good and capture the other insects out here, I’ll leave you alone.” One wandered about the railing, starting to spin a web. The other crawled down from the railing and seemed to say “FOOOOOK YOOOOOUUUUU!” as he made a kamikaze run for my foot....

Easter, 14 years after the trauma I caused...
THe year was 1997. I was on a 6 month contract in Atlanta only going home every 2 or 3 weeks for a weekend and spending way too much time in the office. Marilyn Manson’s Antichrist Superstar was the big hit with those misspending their youth so I of course had long black hair down to my shoulders and a couple labret piercings as was warranted by the anti-conformist conformity I found myself...

Hiatus time...
I’ve come to some conclusions, some based on how lethargic I’ve been over the past couple years while in crunch mode at work and others for deeply personal reasons I just don’t feel like going into. I’ve been drifting on the fringes of circles of friends, going through the motions of going to events and generally not really being satisfied with what I’m doing. It has...
Why @clear really fucking sucks...
So in December when moving, I opted to snag a wireless modem on Clear’s 4G internet service. Tested it for a couple days and was getting reasonable speed in the 3Mbps range both at the old place in NYC and in the new one in Jersey and figured it was about as fast as the cable connection I’d had for years in the east village so I could live with it.
Then, in January there were a couple...

Differences and speaking hypothetically...
Imagine you wake up in some strange neighborhood not remembering what happened the night before or where you went. A quick test of where you are, go to the nearest convenience store and check the dairy case. If the milk expires in a couple days, you’re in a NYC bodega. If it expired last week, you’re in a Jersey City corner store. Speaking hypothetically of course, I woke up at home...
Operation Impending Doom III...
I just figured out that if I spent 10% of the time I do plotting travel, making checklists for packing, etc. and funnel that into getting some exercise, I’d probably not have the now 35 inch waist I do. So that said, between needing about 10 days worth of work clothes, 2 days worth of going out clothes, and any other crap I decide to take to keep myself entertained in the hotel room after...
So about today and other whiny things...
Today was going to be the day that I finally start that great new exercise and nutrition plan. That plan that would give me the next 12 weeks to get in better shape and then evaluate the progress before heading out on vacation. A week at home to start getting in the routine before I head out on the road next week to LA for a couple weeks with a weekend in Seattle during that time. A couple weeks...
"It's not what you're used to" and other funny...
As I prepare to hit the road and head into less than familiar territory or places I haven’t been in a long time, I chat with people online to find out what’s worth the bother of checking out. Seeing that I’m coming from the NYC area, I get hit with lines like, “it’s not what you’re used to” or “it doesn’t even come close to anything NY has to...
Plans...
So it’s barely February and I’m already beginning to fill up my schedule with plans for the year. On deck this month, for the last half of the month I’ll be in LA for 4 days, then Seattle for 2, then back to LA for 7 and then home. Seattle only happened since I’m headed out for work and will be gone for 2 weekends and with hotels in LA being full President’s Day...

Poll time...
I’m working out the details of a vacation later this Spring with Ryan. The current plan is to hit Amsterdam for Queen’s Day with a couple other friends, London and Manchester. We’re going to opt out of flying from Amsterdam to London and instead plan on taking the channel tunnel but that leaves me in a bit of a pickle: 1 more city along the way to explore between Amsterdam and...

Back in Manhattan for the night...
We bailed out of the new place shortly after midnight. The new mattress is still expanding after being compressed into the box for transit. It’s amazing how small they can squish that memory foam down for transit and how big it becomes within minutes of unpacking. The 3 inch top layer of the super comfy stuff was packed down hard as a rock but about 20 minutes later was already springing...

i’d like to grab a drink with u two soon and if we click play, although i have to admit i would luv 1:1 with your boy if you would allow it and only if he’s neg.
In context, clicking through to the profile we have a goofy looking guy who is obsessed with making sure anyone he hooks up with is UNDER 35 or looks young and won’t hook up with people who are HIV+. He also mentions...
Adieu NYC
Well, I have 1 week until I move. I’m not going far and will come and visit you at least 4 times a week for work, but considering I spend more time at home than out and about town and it takes a really good reason to haul my ass above 14th street, it’s become pointless to pay this much rent for only a few conveniences. But, here’s a few things that I’ll miss that I...

Spiky's NYC Restaurants List - Vol. 1
I get asked from time to time for recommendations on where to eat out here. While Ryan would protest that I’m lazy about food relying on delivery.com too much and not caring to venture out of the neighborhood much or just plain ordering the same things over and over, I like what I like and this list contains some of the places I’ve enjoyed over the years in this city. While I bitch and...
T-Shirt...
I want a “Don’t touch my junk” shirt now.
Moving eventually, soonish...
So we started looking today trying to get a feel for what’s out there. I still have no idea why we looked in Stamford other than as a worst case scenario and good excuse to hit Stew Leonard’s in Norwalk (a pretty strong selling point for me given how much I love food these past few years.) There’s some significant downsides to that idea:
Distance from friends
Commute time to...

For the LA peeps...
I’m heading out on Sunday the 19th for a week at the office in LA before heading up Friday the 24th to San Francisco to Folsom Street Fair. So far, here’s where I expect to be:
Sunday, Sept. 19th
8pm-ish Landing at LAX
9pm-ish Checking into the Sheraton Delfina in Santa Monica
10pm-ish Passed out from Benadryl, a muscle relaxer, a painkiller, or a tranquilizer (whichever is easiest...
